Shaniko Oregon

Shaniko Oregon Ghost Town Photo Clinic - July 28, 2018 - Gary Randall Photography announces a day exploring the central Oregon ghost town of Shaniko.

This will be a 1 day field trip photo clinic. Although Gary will cover the basics, this will be a great class for intermediate or advanced photographers who want insight into how I create my photos.

The workshop will be held at Shaniko just north of Madras in Central Oregon. The group will meet at 10am in front of the Shaniko Hotel. We will have a lesson and then we will put into practice the techniques explained by Gary during his talk. Gary will be available throughout the workshop to answer questions, give tips and advice.

The price is only $150. !!!

Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center Photography Workshop 2016

Opal Creek 2016

Opal Creek Ancient Forest Photography Workshop 2016, the third year for this amazing experience. We had the largest group yet and we all had a great time.

The weather was sunny for the first day for the hike in to Jawbone Flats and to our cabin. We spent the rest of the day exploring places around the historic mining town to photograph. We all got to know each other before we called it a night early enough to make it breakfast when the bell rang at 8am.

The second morning was beautiful. It had clouded up giving us some nice even light for our hike down the Little North Fork of the Santiam River, a three mile walk through some amazing old growth forest. We stopped for a picnic on the side of amazing bedrock pools. The further that we walked the more wet it got, but it didn't get intolerable until just before we got back to the cabin. The rest of the day was spent looking at and processing our photos from the hike and talking shop.

The third day was anther day of scattered showers for the hike back. We photographed our way back to our vehicles and bid adieu to each other as new friends.

The experience was indeed one that is more to be described as an adventure. Staying in a cabin together, eating in a community hall family style with the rest of the staff and visitors of Jawbone Flats. In only a matter of a couple of days we start to feel like a part of this unique community.

If you're interested in a truly unique photography workshop experience please consider joining us next season.

Here are a few photos of the field trip.

Opal Creek Workshop 2015 was another amazing time at the Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center near Mill City, Oregon.

Everyone had a great time with perfect weather throughout the event. We were even fortunate enough to have a nice drizzle early Saturday morning, the day in which we had the most time to explore and photograph the area. Enough to dampen the moss and leaves and to make the forest extra fresh as the sun appeared as the day progressed.

Dinner at Jawbone Flats

All of the staff at Jawbone Flats were simply amazing in their want and ability to help make everyone comfortable and that their needs were met to the best of their ability. The food was excellent as it was prepared by the beautiful, talented, caring, humorous and completely inimitable Rebekah. For me Rebekah is an integral component of one of the most important parts of the experience of the workshop and any stay at Jawbone Flats, eating with the rest of the visitors and residents family style in the community hall.

The cabins were comfortable and provided us with opportunities to sit around a large kitchen table to review our photos, explore processing techniques and to discuss the day.

The time always goes by so fast. I'm hoping to make this workshop a tradition.
